Here is some general information on defective and harmful products:

Statistics compiled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's indicate that 22,000 deaths and 29.5 million injuries are associated with consumer products in the United States alone. It is estimated that injuries and damages caused by defective products cost American citizens more than $500 billion annually.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are 200-300 product recalls each year. Many of these recalls involve children's products and toys. Of course, many other products are recalled because of defects or dangerous conditions including: automobiles, tires, children's toys, medical equipment, furniture, household appliances, tools, smoke detectors and fire alarms. The manufacturers of these products have a duty to design and manufacture these products safely. Obviously, that does not always happen. A defective product can cause serious injury (link to personal injury page) including burns, broken bones, permanent disabilities, brain and spinal cord injury, paralysis, scarring, chronic pain and suffering and even death.

There are many other examples of product liabilities including defectively designed or manufactured products; products that do not live up to their respective warranties or guarantees; products that causes injury due to normal use and products that have unclear, incorrect or incomplete instructions or guidelines for use and therefore cause injury or damage.
